Whatever the moment to dress like a pirate is always a winning costume idea. Whether you’re just adding to an event filled evening or a group fancy dress the Pirate costume can guarantee a bit of versatility as you bring out your Pirate personality.
When you dress like a Pirate not even those stuffed superhero costumes will take the spotlight away from your Pirate character. I have enjoyed my fancy dress days as a Pirate and I even know people who had a Pirate themed wedding. So choose to dress like a Pirate and stand out.
So let’s begin putting a few Pirate costume ideas together however remember these are not set in stone. Be as flamboyant as you want or as dark as you like.
Here’s some images of different Pirates:

Take a moment to look at the pictures and start imagining yourself as a Pirate.
As you can see the upper body clothing is quite baggy. If you go for the homemade Pirate costume then a baggy cotton shirt will do the trick. If you choose to wear a vest/jacket type garment over the shirt which is a great addition to any Pirate costume then red, brown or black are good colours for this.
For your legs black is a popular colour however there are many options which can fit the character for which your going to create. Don’t use any denim or lycra style clothing though unless your trying to create a futuristic or freaky looking Pirate.
Your footwear should be slip on in style where boots are the popular choice. You can have knee high or shin boots to pull off the perfect look.
Once you have the basics done it’s time to accessorise your look and dress like a Pirate character that is unique or copied.
Choose a wig if your natural hairstyle is too modern or it better suits your Pirate personality. Add jewellery if you got some or can obtain some gothic looking pieces like rings, necklace and earrings to represent the booty you have captured. A belt is a great addition for the fact that you can have either a wicked looking buckle or a waist sash style. An eyepatch is optional however try to obtain a toy pirate sword (cutlass type) and flintlock gun.
If you do not have enough materials at home to make a homemade Pirate costume then do not fret there are plenty of places you can buy a costume to dress like a Pirate.
Your time to dress like a Pirate is now complete so ‘Avast Ye! Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen!’ enjoy your time as a Pirate and get ‘Three sheets to the wind!’
